The goal of Watch Elect is to serve as an elections intermediary by working alongside civil society organisations, research institutions and citizens to make performing democracy easier. We assist in the mobilisation of citizens to engage in election news, expectations, and voting. We report and provide analytical insight into election related matters in communities and their immediate surroundings, particularly in relation to fit for purpose tools. We are able to gather data about the contexts around elections through pulling together information that gives us the most expansive insights into election related issues: conflict and violence, political mood and climate, women and gender issues during election periods, and the overall health and integrity of the electoral process. In ‘non’ election times we continue to mobilise and educate on digital platforms to monitor the democratic institutions and performance of the state on matters that impact on the lives of citizens.
